This session will combine tips and real-life experiences from Helen’s career to provide attendees with a framework for evaluating enterprise search.
Search implementations are often disappointing, especially when users are used to the ‘Google experience’ and expect their internal search products to be as good.
The session will look at some common problems, focusing less on the technology itself but more on content, culture and engagement.

NNE Pharmaplan has introduced a global onboarding program for new employees to drive a one company culture, reduce employee turnover and deliver better services to customers.
Using integration between a variety of systems including the intranet, corporate website and the e-learning system, new employees are presented with three missions.
The first of these starts before their first day at the company. Using a variety of learning modules, videos and other content, employees learn about the company, processes and customers.
Step Two Designs gave NNE Pharmaplan an Intranet Innovation Gold Award for Business for this program.

In this talk, David Gurteen will introduce the concept of Conversational Leadership.
Conversational Leadership is a style of working where everyone in an organization understands the transformative power of conversation.
They take an open, conversational approach to the way that they work and interact with people.
They purposefully nurture and stimulate the natural conversations that take place in an organization.
They are "Conversation Architects" - they identify the conversations that are needed; the questions to trigger them and they design the processes to convene and host them.
Conversational practices include dialogue, anecdote circles, knowledge cafes, after action reviews, peer assists, storytelling, communities of practice, randomized coffee trials and much more.
Conversational Leadership is not just for managers but is for anyone who wishes to work more effectively.

Wedge talks about how to write great content, and layout intranet pages for a good reading experience. It’s part ‘micro-content strategy’ and part user experience.

Wedge covers:
- Headlines – helping people choose what to click Images – attracting attention and conveying meaning
- Links – how to link to other pages, and to files
- Layout – structuring content for easy reading
- Content – writing for the audience, not your boss
- Documents vs pages – the epic battle

Wedge also touches on engaging audiences and internal communities, channel management (because the intranet is not a single channel) and content for mobile devices.

Due to different reasons, many organisations look for alternatives to SharePoint as intranet platform.
This presentation will cover the most typical intranet scenarios and most typical competing systems for them.
The presentation will analyze the market from the perspective of Scandinavia and will cover systems like Liferay, Confluence, EPiServer, Alfresco, etc.

Key questions:

- What are the most common WCMS and portal systems that are challenging SharePoint in the areas where SharePoint is weak?
- In what kind of situations you should question SharePoint as being the default choice for intranet?
- How to make that argument and also offer strong alternatives?
- What are the key differentiators between systems? Eg. language management, document management, search capabilities.
- Where is the WCMS market going?
- Can we expect more competitors to SharePoint in the future?
